Brooklyn is home to one of the largest and most observant Jewish communities in the world. Borough Park, Midwood, Flatbush, and Kensington are at the very heart of Orthodox Jewish life in New York. Located nearby in Gravesend, Big Apple Funeral Home has deep experience serving these families in full accordance with Jewish law, from arranging a prompt burial to coordinating taharah and working closely with local synagogues and rabbis. We are honored to be a funeral home these communities can rely on.
We arrange funerals in accordance with Jewish tradition. This includes a prompt burial, the ritual washing and purification known as taharah, the presence of a shomer (watcher), and a simple kosher casket. In keeping with tradition, we do not perform embalming, and we work closely with your rabbi and synagogue to honor every observance.
Our care continues beyond the graveside. We help families prepare for shiva, coordinate with your congregation, and provide the guidance you need to observe the mourning period with peace of mind and dignity.
We serve Jewish families throughout Brooklyn, including Borough Park, Midwood, Flatbush, Kensington, and Sheepshead Bay. Learn more about our funeral services and pre-planning, or explore international funeral shipping if a loved one is to be buried in Israel or elsewhere. See our price list.
